Xiaomi has launched its new selfie-focussed smartphone series in India. The company revealed this at an event in New Delhi and called it ‘Y Series’. Y stands for ‘You’, the selfie-taking person. For now, two phones in the new series are launched, namely Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. The main focus of the Redmi Y1 smartphone is its 16-megapixel front camera, complete with a LED selfie light. The Redmi Y1 Lite was also launched at the same event. Alongside the phones, the company also announced the availability of the MIUI 9 Global Stable update for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Mi MIX 2, and Mi Max 2 at the beginning of November.
The Redmi Y1 smartphones feature fingerprint sensor at the rear panel. They will be available in Gold and Dark Grey colors. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will have 5.5 inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone bears a 13-megapixel camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash. It will come with 32 GB of inbuilt storage which is expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card.
The Redmi Y1 Lite will come with 5.5 inch HD display and 13-megapixel rear camera and will have 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor. Both the smartphones will be having 3080 mah bb battery. The two variants of Redmi Y1 are priced at ₹8,999 (3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage) and ₹10,999 (4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage). The Redmi Y1 Lite is available in only one variant at ₹ ₹6,999 (2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage). Both the smartphones will be available on Amazon and Mi.com from November 1.
